Biography
Born on June 4, 1990, lawyer and artist, Cécile Huttenmoser decided to follow her passion: painting and drawing.
From collector parents, Cécile was introduced to art from a very young age and quite naturally art became a passion.
From then on, each trip was an excuse to discover or rediscover classical and contemporary artists, during visits to museums or contemporary art fairs.
Cécile was not content to be a spectator since, from her adolescence, she followed art lessons from a private teacher in Geneva, according to the Martenot method. She learned different painting techniques, practiced sculpture and was able to give free rein to her creativity.
At college, Cécile assiduously took art history classes. His mature work consisted of demonstrating the influence of Madame de Pompadour, mistress of Louis XV, on the Arts through the analysis of her portrait by Maurice Quentin de La Tour from 1755.
In law school, Cécile joined the art law courses taught by Professor Marc-André Renold, holder of the UNESCO chair. Under his supervision, she wrote her Bachelor and Master theses with the themes respectively: “The restitution of looted property, the Rosenberg judgment” and “Public international law as a response to the protection of cultural property in the event of armed conflicts non-international: an incomplete right? The example of Buddhas of Bamiyam”.
As theory and practice complement each other, Cécile had the pleasure of presenting her first solo exhibition in Geneva in April 2023. Her second solo show was held in Geneva in March 2025. She also exhibited her paintings in Singapore between 2022 and 2024.
Her works are grouped into four themes:
- Drops (acrylic on canvas, acrylic on canvas mounted on cardboard). Discovering Japan, its glowing maple forests in autumn and the famous cherry blossoms in spring, was the beginning of a long period of reflection for Cécile. She first created a series called Drops of Spring, inspired by sakura blossoms, before embarking on an interpretation of the four seasons in the form of drops. The play of colors, the common thread of the drops, finds its inspiration in nature: sunlight in wheat fields for Drops of Summer, Japanese maples for Drops of Autumn, and snowflakes for Drops of Winter. Naturally, Cécile evolved her concept of drops to achieve accumulation and abstraction in the search for harmony and color dialogue.
- Nudes, ink drawings of women on paper. Throughout the history of art, women have always been represented by artists. Cécile naturally wanted to confront them with the simplicity and grandeur of pure gesture. Her women from behind remind her in particular of Man Ray's photograph entitled "Le violon d'Ingres." After drawing female bodies in black on a white background, Cécile wanted to integrate color into her nudes. The repetitive gesture in art has always fascinated her. Constantin Brancusi's endless column, Dadamaino's writing ("L'alfabeto della Mente"), and the work of Alighero Boeti have inspired her. The BIC® Crystal pen, a vector of her quest for continuity, allowed for a smooth, continuous line from one edge of the sheet to the other, with irregular ink deposits breaking up the monotony.
- Mountain Landscapes (acrylic on canvas, acrylic on canvas mounted on cardboard). Having lived in Singapore, Cécile terribly missed the cold, the seasons, and the mountains, which inspired her creations combining painting and sculpture. Once again, color plays a central role in her interpretation of mountains.
- Reliefs (mixed media on canvas). Inspired by Spatialism, a movement founded by Lucio Fontana in the 1950s, Cécile reinterprets the capture of time, light, and space on canvas. Her moving sculpture-paintings are left raw or covered with monochrome paint. By sculpting reliefs, Cécile seeks harmony in curves, softness and roundness of gesture, a theme also present in her nude drawings. Her painting-sculptures respond to their environment, particularly the surrounding light; they appear suspended in the harmony of space.
